Session Summary
Exploring the burrow under the well further, the Gatewalkers navigate a chilling chamber, avoiding a cold-radiating hazard via climbing vines. They rescue four imprisoned Reclaimers (a human, gnome, dwarf, and elf) from a cell, learning of a sadistic monster and a multiplying plant creature. Sammakko retrieves the fallen meteorite, revealed as a moonflower seed containing primeval mistletoe, and flee from the carnivorous moonflower which is trapped in a pit. In the beetle’s lair, they are ambushed by Valmar, an umasi abomination grafted from demon and humanoid parts, along with his skin beetle swarm. They slay them all. Looting yields adventuring gear, elixirs, tools, and a +1 striking war razor. The Reclaimers, grateful, share lore on Godcallers and offer escort to the ruined city of Domora, 150 miles northwest, to seek a living god. The party levels up to 7, receiving a Ring of Energy Resistance (acid) and Scroll of Fly as thanks.
Timeline
- Investigate tanning table and adventurer’s pile, finding waterskins, rations, Desna symbol, and grim trophy talisman.
- Rescue four reclaimers from locked cell, learning of their capture and escaped companion Eijanna.
- Descend steep stairs to crater room, spot glowing meteorite and rustling carnivorous moonflower in pit.
- Sammakko uses telekinetic projectile to retrieve meteorite seed, alerting moonflower; party flees up stairs, leaving plant trapped.
- Investigate meteorite outside: identify as moonflower seed with primeval mistletoe remnants.
- Return to dining room, open side door to Valmar’s chamber; bearskin rug animates, revealing umasi Valmar who attacks with knife and shield.
- Combat ensues: party defeats Valmar and summoned skin beetles, suffering wounds but applying first aid.
- Search Valmar’s room: find +1 striking war razor, steel shield, keys; detect no magic on bearskin.
- Explore beetle nest room: empty, no eggs or valuables.
- Proceed through tunnel with scattered silver coins (10 sp collected).
- Enter final room with borax circle protecting crates and chest; disarm soil collapse trap.
- Loot crates and chest: sun rods, Infiltrator’s thieves’ tools, expanded healer’s tools, elixirs of life, oils of unlife, antiplague doses; identify abstract Valmar painting as worthless.
- Return to surface, present meteorite seed to Sakuachi; Reclaimers introduce themselves and share Godcaller lore, directing to Domora ruins.
- Reclaimers offer 7-day escort to Domora; party accepts, receives Ring of Energy Resistance (acid) and Scroll of Fly; level up to 7.
