Book 2: They Watched the Stars
Chapter 2: Still Waters (Or “Rafting with Revenants”)
The group piles onto the raft; Sakuachi (native Sacagawea), Deniigi (Thighs McGee), Innumma (Story telling grandpa), Ulikuq (Inuit Cyclops) and the Gatewalker gang. After two days travel in the Icerime river, they reach Winterbreak Bay. People talk about themselves… mostly Kalathel. All trip long the group hears, “I’m such an old ass elf…” and then fun facts about him and his bag of goodies. The native companions are from an Erutaki tribe who are on a vision quest and Sakuachi has to do something with a living god to seal Osoyo away. Everyone eats well on the trip because of the taciturn Yoi-ko, and Kalathel is racist to the natives.
As the group travels on the lake, the waters push us towards the wrecks. This is good because the group needs a ship to try to sail the rest of the lake. On the third night, Sakauchi has a vision of a weeping mermaid we have to talk to during the tolling bells and moonlight.
One night later, the group arrives in the Jundlan Wrecks. It is extremely cold and dangerous without winter clothing. The ground is uneven ground and difficult terrain. After hours, the group hears bells tolling but cannot tell what direction it is coming from. Then a sobbing person can be heard sobbing. Out of the icy mist, an intact boat can be seen, called the Mermaids Tears. The figure head is that of a halfling maiden crying icy tears.
Hector points out that we want to check it for creatures lest the group free it and the fiends sail off with out them. As the group tries to get to the ship, while the natives wait on the raft, Sammakko is tossed forward by Hector. Suddenly, Draugr attack. During combat Sammakko is chaos. They were defeated.
The group scouts the ship. Sammakko and Kalathel discover that the ship find a capstan swabby, which is an automated means to assist with sailing. When the group boards the ship, the automaton comes to life! They fight with it and the ghost captain, Adney Tinhill, offers to take them where they need to go if the group can break the ship out of the ice. A naiad, Pholebus, has a spell that can break the ship free but she wants the ships wood for her shrine. Adney gives the group some loot and sends them on their way to her lair.
