Book 2: They Watched the Stars
Chapter 4: Ruins of Domora
Or, The Weather Outside is Frightful
Session Summary
The party rests at camp after uncovering Domora’s spiritual history involving god-callers and spirit guides like Dyzad. They discuss lore from Dr. Ritalson’s files, prepare spells, and sort inventory including cold iron daggers, elixirs, and demonhorn spellhearts. Sakuachi shares a vision of demonic influence and expresses interest in becoming a godcaller, joining the group.
They travel to the windswept Battlefield. Sammakko spots brimoraks (fire demons) through smoke clouds using See the Unseen, and after careful planning they engage in combat. The battlefield quickly becomes a maelstrom of Ice Storms and Fireballs. Using strategic spells like Thunderstrike, shattering blows from Hector’s maul, along with little help from a cold iron dagger that Yoi-ko lent to Droog, the Gatewalkers defeat the arson demons.
Post-battle investigation reveals historical crusader/demon clashes. No godcaller traces, but there are hints at the demon Malgamon’s lair in an underground cistern that once served as the city’s water supply. Suspicions also arise about Sakuachi’s loyalties.

Investigating the Ruins
Battlefield Lore
The armaments and remains scattered about all vary considerably in age. Clearly, there was more than just one battle here—there were dozens over many years. Iron trinkets bearing the symbol of Iomedae are common among the fallen, as are demonic sigils, but there aren’t any remains that suggest the presence of Sarkorian god callers. This battlefield was clearly used by demons and crusaders, not Domorans.
Domora’s Deities Lore
During the Time of the Worldwound, a demon called Malgamon took special pleasure in slaughtering spirit guides and the god callers who worked with them. Malgamon was known to lair in Domora’s underground cistern, but no demon slayers ever managed to penetrate this dungeon—the wells and tunnels that had once connected to the cistern were all destroyed during the demonic incursion. Still, Malgamon somehow managed to make forays to the surface, so a final entrance to the cistern must exist somewhere.
