Chapter 2: Thin Air

The door to the west opens to a library with three balconies with ladders extending to them. There is an insectoid creature which questions the party as to why they are there. Sam uses his frog charisma to try to get the artist (who had created the art work in the other rooms with light crafting) to tell him about Kaneepo. Despite being suspicious, the artist tells the group that she is only here to document Kaneepo’s actions. She also reveals that Kaneepo is in their throne room and the party can find them there but they are not to touch anything in the library.

Through the door to the next room there stands a surgical table which has a gutter around it, a rack of tools is on the wall. There is a bed and it appears to be a medical chamber. A stairway is to the south and doors to the north and east which are closed. A shadowy creature named Leiko attacks them when they enter the room. Kalathel uses his deviant ability to absorb the cold from Leiko’s attack but also drains the silver color from all items in the room, rendering them cartoonish looking. Using his thaumaturgy Kalathel also reveals that she is vulnerable to physical attacks. To the horror of the party, she moves and attacks with unnatural prowess as she shifts between shadow and solid, and they are forces to scatter to avoid her. During the fray she announces that Kaneepo is hers and Sammakko wonders if she would join forces with the party to defeat Kaneepo. The vicious melee swirled until Zephrym struck her down with a bolt of electricity.

Shylock searches the desk of the room and finds papers: some of them depict people morphing into horrific monsters, and Varna the Oaksteward. Two runestones, one of striking and one of armor, were also there. Among the surgical tool there is a minor healing potion. At the bottom of the corpse removal pit the party finds the body of Varna.

After healing up, the group heads to the west. The door opens upon a large 2 level 40 foot tall chamber with one level 20 ft above the other. The lower level has a man (The Looksee Man) amongst debris and bed while large amber pods are connected to a tree on the upper level. The Looksee Man, a mutated being from the shadow realm, attacks and crawls up the wall. The party tries to keep him in bright light to make him easier to hit, as instructed by Kalathel. Sammakko and Zephrym use Sammakko’s deviant ability to take out the pods, enraging the Looksee Man. Finally Kalathel was able to kill him, stabbing him in the eye while the Looksee Man attempted to cast a spell. The group was able to find some reagents worth 10 gp as well as his special goggles.
