Book 1: The Seventh Arch
Chapter 3: Memories of the Green
Shylock scouts the room of bones and rotting ahead of the group to preempt anymore ambushes by monsters while the group hangs back. Not finding anything, Shylock stops sneaking to yell, “It’s safe” and the skeletons burst from the mounds of bones! The Champion of Bones, a humanoid being, strikes Shylock and dashes at the rest of the party. Zephrym takes a wound and blasts him back. The two other skeletal champions (insectoid humanoids) attack Shylock ineffectually and Sammakko blasts them with lightning. Shylock attempts to use a spell and is taken out by the two skeletons before he can attack. Kalathel cuts at the main champion and exploits its weakness. The battle rages, blades flashing, lightning blasting, and fire searing. Sammako melts one of the skeletons with a healing potion. When Shylock awakens, he unleashes a blast of healing to decimate the skeletons and heal the party. Zephrym searches the room and discovers different items including armor, weapons, and a crossbow with a +1 Rune of Striking.
Heading north there is a fungus-covered room with a shield-shaped light on the wall. When Kalathel examines the light he is attacked by fungoids. They appear angry but Sammakko puts them at ease with his sweet talking and complimenting the garden. The party is allowed to leave so long as they do not touch anything.
As the group progresses through a hall which becomes smooth stone work, Kalathel sneaks forward. He finds a couple of Scalescribes within the chamber. The walls are covered in pieces of paper with text scrawled upon it. Sammakko walks up to them and they excitedly asks questions needed to get an appointment. When Shylock becomes impatient and attempts to enter the room, the Scalescribes attack! The creatures viciously assault the party with a mix of poisonous pen slashes and random magical effects. The party uses coordinated attacks and take the creatures down with a minimum of damage. After capturing the remaining Scalescribe the party interrogates him about the room beyond. He tells us that the keepers in the room are called the Caulborn and are not aggressive but didn’t want them in the room and kicked them out. Sammakko found two scrolls and then the party opens the doors.
The party enters the room and are greeted by the Caulborn, alien caretakers of the place. They tell the party that they know the memories that are desired, and offer them in exchange for memories from each member. After the exchange, the fruits in the garden are found to be heads, and the party is brought to the head of Iskariel. She reveals the secret history, when Osoyo was placed beneath the thickest ice on Galarion. Osoyo’s power is being twisted but he is protecting the group. The group can find “She Who Walks Through Seasons” to find how to stop the shadow curse and then proceed to imprison the whale.
The Caulborn escort the group back to the entrance and they meet Jenthial who waited for them. He tells them that they have to get water from the head of “She Who Walks Through Seasons” after performing a ritual at a spire and providing an offering. He gives the group a stoppered gourd and the elves will guide the party to the spire, though they will not aid once there.
Treasure: three suits of chain mail, one lance, two longswords, two steel shields, one +1 striking crossbow, 20 crossbow bolts, one scroll of glitterdust, one scroll of holy light.
